Environmental

It is now impossible to consider a new-build or refurbishment project without first considering the energy efficiency of the building and measures to reduce a building’s environmental impact.

Much of the time, we refer to the ‘carbon footprint’ of the building with reference to the Energy Performance Certificate. We also refer to the building impact as a whole in terms of sustainability. Hopkins Coats Associates have both trained and qualified Energy Assessors and BREEAM Assessors in house.

BREEAM Assessment

Our in-house BREEAM Assessor is fully accredited with the BRE to perform public and commercial assessments under the New Construction 2008, 2011 and 2014 schemes. The qualifications allow us to carry out BREEAM assessments for new build, or major refurbishment projects for a variety of building uses, from public healthcare buildings to commercial retail units.

BREEAM Technical Reports

We acknowledge that achieving BREEAM can be a costly exercise for the developer. On some developments, additional BREEAM credits are available by undertaking feasibility studies or additional design calculation. We have experience in providing these evidences (such as Daylight Reports, Low Zero Carbon Feasibility Reports, Natural Ventilation calculations, etc) which is often a cost effective way of obtaining additional credits.

CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessors

We are fully trained and registered with CIBSE as ‘Low Carbon Consultants’ which enables us to advise our clients on how to best utilise low zero carbon technologies on their development. We are also able to generate Part L compliance checks (BRUKL Reports) and lodge Energy Performance Certificates. We now often find that we undertake this service on pretty much every new project we are commissioned on!
